2008 Forecasts

Like many of you, I've been digesting vast quantities of construction industry forecast information I can locate to best understand the challenges our industry faces and how ConstructHub is or can be poised to alleviate strain and deliver futher quantifable benefits.

The January edition of Construction Executive provided numerous direct references to the increasing importance of technology in construction.

"Contractors should focus on modern methods, such as construction technology, to enhance and streamline ordinary business practices" shares Matt Stevens, author of Managing a Construction Firm on Just 24 Hours a Day (Pinch, L., January 2008. What to anticipate in '08, p. 30, Construction Executive).

"Industry executives should devote more resources to exploring the benefits they can derive from using the Internet" (Jurewicz, B., January, 2008. Taking Advantage of Online Communication Technology, p. 45, Construction Executive). Why? As Jurewicz clearly advises, "by posting critical project information online and instantly executing multiple tasks efficiently and cost-effectively, online communications allow personel to engage in other works that delivers more value to the business" (p.45).

ConstructTech Highlights ConstructHub

Construction Executive, the magazine for the business of construction, annually recognizes the vital role of manufacturers and suppliers to the construction process in its “Hot Products - Innovative Products Showcase”. ConstructHub joins a prestigious group of technology products in 2007, gaining recognition for ConstructHub’s industry-leading, web 2.0 project management solution.

The construction industry faces immense pressure to improve productivity. ConstructHub’s premise of “Efficiency through Simplicity” defines the company and product. ConstructHub’s intelligent technology infrastructure, user-friendly interface, live mobile connectivity, and construction-based leadership distinguish ConstructHub from first generation project management tools. ConstructHub allows construction management and field staff to focus on construction and not software, reaping success and financial results through real-time collaboration with multiple project stakeholders. It is absolutely an honor to be recognized as a construction industry leader in the tech sector.

How important is it to you, a project manager, construction manager, GC or owner that your tools are endorsed by the industry? Do peer referrals influence you more? Or, alternatively, is it more important that any solution align with your business process and practice? How do you select tools for your company?

New Year's Solutions

In the coming year, many contractors will be looking to replace old software with solutions to better fit the needs of the company. Two contractors are discovering the advantages of switching software.

Looking to use one centralized solution for several different construction tasks, SAB (Southwest Architectural Builders), http://www.sab-arizona.com/, Phoenix, Ariz., turned to the Web for a construction and project management solution. The company recently implemented ConstructHub, http://www.constructhub.com/, Tempe, Ariz., an online construction site devised by construction professionals.

ConstructHub allows SAB employees to collaborate on one Website, which can be accessed from anywhere with an Internet connection. The Website has various modules ranging from bid management to project management, allowing SAB to combine multiple functions in one location. SAB has also customized the site to meet its company-specific needs “Customizing forms and documents allowed SAB to personalize the product and make ConstructHub reflective of our own style of work and internal branding,” says Molly Kovaka, project manager, SAB.
